Octavo. Engraved frontispiece with tissue guard titled Arthur Mervyn. 96 pages. This issue has an unrecorded review of Wieland (cf. "Biographical Notes" in The Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America, Vol. 60, No. 3) 1960. The long review (p. 42-51) begins by noting Wieland and the novels of Charles Brockden Brown are praised by the critics but not regarded highly by the public. He notes the depth of philosophical ideas of Reid and Locke as being inherent in Brown's writing. He goes on to note: "This writer, indeed, in all his novels, displays abundance of his power, but in one of them, we believe in as much perfection as in this [Wieland]", (p. 46).
