Couple of foredges chipped with no textual loss. Title within plain ruled border; woodcut title vignette; head pieces and initials.Amoris divini occvltæ Semitæ. Contains index and bibliographical references. Contemporary calf worn, corners bumped with the boards showing through, spine chipped at the head and toe. Constantine de Barbanson (1582 - 1631 ) was a Capuchin Friar Minor, spiritual theorist and myystic. He was born in Barbançon, Belgium in 1582. His father was murdered by the Huguenots leaving his mother to bring up the family of three alone . Constantin entered the novitiate of the Capuchins of Brussels in 1601. The master of novices wasJean de Landen, a disciple of Bellintani de Salo, a famous mystic from the beginnings of the Capuchin reform. During the ten years he was in Brussels Constantin continued his ecclesiastical studies, under the spiritual direction of Bro. Francis Nugent ( 1569 - 1635 ). In 1612 he was sent as an itinerant preacher to the Rhineland and he also played significant roles in the convents of Paderborn, Munster, Cologne, Mainz and Bonn. He also had to overlook supervise the creation of Capuchin nuns monasteries in the region, after having witnessed the example of his tutor, Francis Nugent, who had been the advisor to the Capuchins and Benedictines of Douai . It is possible that the book offered here, his most important, was written at the request of the abbess of Douai, Florence de Werquign ul. Barbanson died of a cerebral haemorrhage at Bonn, 1631.
