Beschreibung
Set of two silk-lined, brocade-covered boxes, the first of which includes a marble censor, one bottle of Hua Tu Temple incense powder, silver trimmed mica sheet, buffalo horn spoon, tweezers, charcoal, censor ash and detailed instructions. The second box contains four additional bottles of assorted, custom hand-blended incense powders. In ancient China and Japan, the art of blending incense was a cultural accomplishment ranking, and associated, with music and poetry. The literati and governing classes lived in clouds of incense and mists of perfume. These odours were understood to be sustenance for the soul, uplifting and purifying in effect and contributing greatly to intellectual and spiritual pursuits. The various incense blends in this set were reconstructed from recipes found in ancient texts, and have been made from the finest and purest ingredients, many of which originate on the Tibetan borderlands of western China. The nature and use of blended incense powder is inherently more pure than modern commercial products, as they are comprised only of the raw ingredients and are devoid of the gums or other adhesives used to manufacture incense sticks or cones. The incense and equipment included in this set offer an authentic experience of the taste and favoured aromas of China and Japan some fifteen hundred years ago. Due to the rarity of the ingredients and the difficulty of their procurement, only 50 sets have been made. A unique, limited edition gift for oneself, or for others in your inner circle.
