Quires 2A-2D are in two settings; 2C4v last line begins (1) "led to be" or (2) "to bee" and line 1 has 'townes' - this is the latter. Title within woodcut border. Early blind-stamped vellum over later boards. Extremities rubbed and discoloured. Occasional damp-staining (primarily confined to margins), small worm-track to head of gutter. A rare early edition of parliamentary acts issued during the reign of Elizabeth I. A primary historical source of great importance, the acts collected here relate to embezzlement of armour, the gauging of foreign vessels transporting ale, horse stealing, and legislation relating to the 'Erection of Cottages Act', that prohibited the construction of any dwelling that did not have at least four acres assigned to it out of the freehold or other heritable land belonging to the person responsible for its construction. These measures were adopted to combat the commonly held belief, that if a house were erected by a squatter on waste ground overnight, then they had the right of undisturbed possession.
