The Exchange of the Two Princesses in Hendaye in the Basque Provinces on the border between France and Spain. allegorical scene with Anne of Austria and Elizabeth of Bourbon standing on a pontoon bridge holding hands. the young Elizabeth (as future wife of Philip IV of Spain) standing at right, seen in profile in front of the female personification of Spain. Anne (as future wife of Louis XIII) standing at left with the female personification of France. a male personification of the River Bidassoa with a triton in lower right. putti and a female personification with a cornucopia (Felicity) above. This original antique print originates from 'Musee du Louvre. Galerie de Rubens dite du Luxembourg composee des vingt-quatre tableaux de la vie de Marie de Medicis graves sur acier par les premiers artistes .', with text by S. de Saint-Planchez, published in Paris c. 1873 by Gustave Guerin (first published 1809).
