The image size is ca. 26.4 x 19.1 inch.Antique map, titled: 'Carte Plate qui Comprend la Partie Septentrionale de la Cote de Coromandel et les Cotes de Golconde, d'Oricha, et de Bengale.' - Coastal map/chart of the east coast of India, from Calcutta to Puducherry (still Pondicherri on this map). The map is oriented east, with Calcutta in the right edge and Pondicherry in the right edge. Depth soundings along the coast, rhumb lines and a compass rose. Four small coast profiles below the title. Modern regions included in this area are Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha. This map was published in "Le Neptune Orient" by Mannevillette, published Paris: 1775-1781.Artists and Engravers: Made by an anonymous engraver after 'Jean Baptiste d'Apres de Mannevillette'. Jean Baptiste Apres de Mannevillette was a prominent French hydrographer and cartographer, and a superior officer in the French East India Company. He was known for charting the coasts of India and China during the 18th century. Mannevilletteâ s work was internationally renowned, and his charts and atlases were important resources for ships navigating the region. His atlas â Le Neptune Orientalâ was an authoritative and widely used source in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and drew on Mannevilletteâ s own experience as a navigator and naval officer in the seas of Asia.Condition: Fair, given age. Original middle fold, as issued. Several small foxing stains in the image area. Offsetting from the printed lines as well as foxing. Some small tears in the margin edges (not affecting image).
