Engraving on wove paper. on paper. Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 68.6 x 101.6 cm. The image size is ca. 64.5 x 98.1 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 27 x 40 inch. The image size is ca. 25.4 x 38.6 inch.Antique map, titled: ''Macassar Road.'' - A sea chart of the Indonesian archipelago. This includes Celebes in the northwest, Kalimantan in the northeast. A string of islands demarcates the south end of the map: Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores and Sumba (also known as the Sunda islands). The map shows detailed depth soundings, numerous islands, and four compass roses. Lighthouses are indicated with small coloured dots. An inset map shows the coast near the harbour of Makassar. Originally published by the Admiralty in 1867 based on Belcher's chart of 1844. This is a corrected edition of May 1870. These type of charts are scarse as they were actually used at sea for navigation.Artists and Engravers: Made by an anonymous engraver after 'Captain Edward Belcher'.Condition: Very good, given age. The top margin a little stained and creased. Some small imperfections in the lower left margin (not affecting image). A faint dampstain in the left edge of the image.
