The eighth edition.ESTC citation number T110289.One page of adverts to the rear.Collated, complete.A biography on Bampfylde Moore Carew, who apparently wrote this himself during a passage to America, though it's more likely that Carew supplied the facts to Robert Goadby, who then wrote it.Carew here provides a fantastic tale of his life, and though he certainly travelled and was involved in minor crimes, many stories in this volume are too fantastical and literary to be true. Carew claimed to be the King of the Beggars, and is known for being a rogue, vagabond, and imposter.This biography was an instant bestseller and was reprinted many times over the next hundred years.Ink inscription of John Laugham to the recto to the front endpaper. In a full calf rebacked binding. Externally, generally smart. Some rubbing to the boards, with a little wear to the extremities which has resulted in some loss of leather. A few light marks to the boards and a little discolouration. Bookseller's label to the front paste down, ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper and to the verso of the rear endpaper.
