Beschreibung
An archive of a 30 page manuscript illustrated with 11 black and white silver gelatin photographs, awards, and postcards written by a young woman in Wyomissing , Pennsylvania in 1940. All items very good or better with some edgewear. A handwritten autobiography written by Bettie Daniel, a young woman living in Wyomissing Pennsylvania in 1940. Daniel was born October 20, 1926 and in this manuscript she discusses her birth until a 1939 trip to the World s Fair with photographs and postcards as illustrations. The first page is dated Dec. 15, 1939 and is titled "My Autobiography by Bettie Daniel." She starts at the beginning of her story with her birth writing "I was one of the first babies born at the Reading Hospital, besides a set of twinds [sic]." Photographs featured here show Bettie as a toddler with her dog, their house, and a beach vacation from this time. As a child Bettie came down with whooping cough and they had to quarantine in their home for a month and half which included a sign on their house which read, "whooping cough stay away $1000 fine for removing sign until notice." Her grandmother passed in 1930 and Bettie includes a photo of her grandmother with Bettie and her sibling. From her early years she moves on to her early school days featuring her report cards and pictorial postcards of her school. When she gets into middle school she creates a club for her and her girlfriends, complete with initiation. Two photobooth images featured here shows her before and after getting a "permanent" hairstyle. She also includes ribbons she won during a swim race and for having the smallest pet and best dressed pet at Wyomissing Playground in 1937 and 1938. The final part of the autobiography takes place at the World s Fair at New York where she saw a teacher on a date! A sweet narrative of a young woman s life in the 1920s and 30s.
