Beschreibung
The fourth edition of Edmund Cartwright's immensely popular and exciting poem about Armine and Elvira, illustrated with a lovely engraved vignette by Isaac Taylor to the title page. The fourth edition of this work. Disbound. Bound without half-title. Otherwise, work is complete. Illustrated with a vignette engraving to the title page, by Isaac Taylor, a noted engraver. ESTC citation number T22417. A narrative verse poem, being the legendary tale of Armine and Elvira. This was an exceptionally popular poem, going through many editions in the few years after it was published, and receiving praise from the likes of Sir Walter Scott. This was, at the time, one of John Murray's best selling publications. Written by Edmund Cartwright, an English inventor, who is best known for his invention of the power loom. He wrote this poem whilst he was a clergyman, and also published the poem 'The Prince of Peace' in 1779. Disbound, with a small amount of backstrip still attached. The outer-wraps are lightly age-toned with only a couple of very light spots, with an ink mark to the rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned with only the occasional light spot. Small amount of age-toned to the page following the title page, due to the vignette. Very Good.
