blue leather boards w/ decorative gilt; gilt decorative spine. illustrated, gilt pastedowns & endpapers. all edges gilt. vol1: 548 pgs w/ 19 color plates & 420 bw figures. vol2: 571 pgs w/ 14 color plates & 409 bw figures. Previous bookstore notations to front endpapers. Pages remain fairly bright with faint tanning to edges; occasional smudges, marks or foxing. Decorative gilt remains bright. Volume one a definite candidate for rebinding. Volume one 'Troisieme Edition.' Chromolithographic plates remain bright and detailed; only a few tissue-guards missing between both editions. Good (leather boards rubbed at edges, corners & spine edges. vol1 has chipping & erosion to spine ends; harshly rubbed spine edges; upper board area of gilt is rubbed & scratched. vol1 front board nearly attached, held by lone joint; back board & spine detach from textblock.).
