The political assassination of Kentucky Governor William Goebel, January 30, 1905, for which Secretary of State Caleb Powers was three times tried, convicted, and sentenced to death, only to have the convictions reversed on technicalities by the Court of Appeals. Ultimately, Powers would be tried a fourth time, with the Jury being dead-locked. He was not tried again, and went on to serve 8 years in Congress. Housed in protective mylar report cover.
