As a statesman, Franklin played a crucial role in the American Revolution, helping draft the Declaration of Independence and negotiating the Treaty of Paris. His diplomatic efforts in France were instrumental in securing support for the revolutionary cause. A strong advocate for unity and civic responsibility, he contributed to the formation of institutions like the University of Pennsylvania.
