The autobiography of English historian Edward Gibbon (1737-1794) in an undated Everyman's Library edition. Mr. Gibbon is known for his monumental "The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire". Edited and with an introduction by Oliphant Smeaton. Though undated, this copy possibly published c.1911-1928. Number 511 in Everyman's Library Biography series, edited by Ernest Rhys. --- In flatback binding style 1, full grey cloth-covered boards with elaborate Reginald Knowles-designed gilt spine titling & decorations, blindstamped J. M. Dent vignette to front cover, black topstain.
