Russell (AE) and dated Christmas 1949 to FFEP, wrapper a little rubbed and chipped at edges, and with light marks at extremes, spine dull, light tan cloth all clean, a little offsetting to blank endpapers due to the news cutting, Octavo. John Cowper Powys (8 October 1872 17 June 1963) was an English novelist, philosopher, lecturer, critic and poet. Autobiography, published in 1934, the year Powys returned to Britain from America, describes his first 60 years, and is considered one of his most important works. Writer J. B. Priestley comments: "Even if Powys had never written any novels and at least one of them, A Glastonbury Romance is a masterpiece this one book alone would have proved him to be a writer of genius."
