M. Brock.'The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table' is a collection of essays that were originally published in 'The Atlantic Monthly'. The essays take the form of one-sided dialogue, and discuss the benefits of old age, the nature of conversation, and the finest place to site a dwelling.'The Professor at the Breakfast-Table' and 'The Poet at the Breakfast-Table' were continuations of 'The Autocrat'. The original narrator, the 'Autocrat' of the first work, dies, and is replaced with a physician who was trained in Paris, and then replaced in 'The Poet' with a character who advocates modern scientific ideas.Present here are Dent's 1911 editions of the 'Professor' and 'Autocrat', and the 1907 edition of 'The Poet'. Spotting to fore edge of text block. Externally, bright. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to first few leaves of each volume, with further spotting to plate perimeters. Very Good.
