TITLE CONTINUED: Showing the Progress of the Gentle Craft as Taught in These Pages With Descriptions of Flies For the Season of the Year as They Come Out of the Water. 1855, REWRITTEN AND REVISED EDITION BY THE AUTHOR BLACKER HIMSELF,1855, (a further printing was issued in the same year with a frontispiece in black and white, not coloured). 12mo, approximately 165 x 100 mm, 6½ x 4 inches, 22 engraved plates as listed in the plate list, hand coloured frontispiece on thick paper, engraved title page, plus 20 engraved plates on thick paper, 17 hand coloured plates of salmon and trout flies, plus 3 plates uncoloured, all coloured plates with tissue guards, pages: [4], v-xi, [2], ii-viii, 1-259, bound in original full black roan, gilt title, gilt floral design and gilt rules to spine, gilt decoration to edges of covers, original pale beige endpapers. Binding slightly rubbed, slight pale handling marks to outer margins of several colour plates, pale brown offset to most tissue guaards from the colour plates, pale ink stain to first pastedown, small pale staining affecting 2 facing pages (see attached image), pale spotting to endpapers and occasional pale spots to margins, slight cracking to inner paper hinges. A good tight copy.
