Originally published in 1933, an Austral classic!
"As In Darlinghurst Nights, it is possible to see in these poems the darker side of the Depression... where the verse shines is in the enjoyment of living... It is a world of externals: clothing motor cars, yachts, aeroplanes, the tatty and the fashionable, not the world of metaphysics and unobtainable beauty... Romance in 1930 was a way out of the spiritual depressions of the Slump, a cheap escape from the cruel fiscal realities preached by Sir Otto Niemeyer, and a way of enjoying the senses free from the control of the state or the economy."
- Julian Croft, from his introduction
