Buchbeschreibung Tel Aviv: Tel Aviv Museum of Art, 2007. Kartoniert. Buchzustand: Wie neu. 222 Seiten, mit zahlreichen Abbildungen. Illustrierter Originalkartonband in nahezu neuwertigem Zustand. - Eight years ago at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art we displayed a large-scale panoramic picture (825 cm. in breadth) by Barry Frydlender, at the entrance to a comprehensive exhibition ("Contemporary Cityscapes") celebrating the 90th anniversary of Tel Aviv-Yafo. it was interesting to observe the behavior of the viewers looking at the picture, whose vast dimensions made it impossible to take it in fully in a single gaze. The viewers walked to and fro, forward and backward, along its entire breadth, and as they walked Tel Aviv revealed itself to their eyes as though for the first time, with all its marginal Corners and its backyards, other, different, containing mang surprises. In Frydlender's early panoramas, the broad, large-scale format contained a gaze that is close to the Romantic conception, like that of Turner in his late landscapes, which were painted from several perspectival points-of-view and with inward and outward movement among the elements of the landscape. The movement of the gaze in Turner's work heralded the movement of the motion picture camera, which enables focusing and expansion (zoom-in and zoom-out) that as-it-were eliminate the hierarchy of the single vanishing point. A year ago, in the framework of the "Disengagement" exhibition (curator: Nili Goren), we showed (again in the Museum foyer) another work by Frydlender, Shirat Hayam. In this picture, the arena of the painful event became a spectacular plag constructed in numerous circles, as though in response to the instructions of a choreographer/filmmaker staging the drama of the evacuators and the evacuees. Indeed, Frydlender's later pictures are more attentive to topical events. The social and political context is present in them in a very meaningful way, although neuer in any direct or declarative manner. (Foreword) Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 1100.
