Forty years ago, France's war with the anticolonial Communist-led Vietminh insurgency climaxed in the bloody battle for the valley of Dienbienphu. Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor: Jules Roy was a French Army officer but resigned in protest of the French Indochina. He then became one of France's most distinguished novelists and journalists.

Ralph Wetterhahn, a former U.S. Air Force pilot who flew 180 combat missions in Vietnam, is author of The Last Battle: The Mayaguez Incident and the End of the Vietnam War, and lives in California.
