The craft of the metalworker, practised from primitive times, has considerable possibilities for the home craftsman. The art of beating out metal with hammer and mallet from prepared sheet is one within the scope of the amateur, and much can be done with the simplest equipment. The suggestions given in this volume are intended to lead the beginner-craftsman very gradually through the initial stages of metalworking and provide it graduated course of work calculated to enable anyone to become proficient in the manipulation of the malleable metals. The objects chosen are graded in order of difficulty and are such as will be found useful in the home. The work in the early stages can be carried on with very inexpensive equipment and at little cost; progress in more ambitious work can be made by gradual additions to the number of tools and appliances; and in no case is it essential that a specially equipped room or work-shop should be provided.
