After Pearl Harbor the Japanese interned them at the Chapei Civilian Assembly Center outside Shanghai, where they spent thirty-one months; the book covers camp rations, Red Cross parcels, a wedding among the internees and the end of the war, then their return to Shanghai in 1947. Cover illustration by John Steel (1921-1998), the California illustrator known for Revell and Monogram model-kit box art and for religious illustration for Pacific Press.
