Verlag: G. A. Blunden
Buchbeschreibung Hawstead: G. A. Blunden, 1930, 1930. Octavo. Original grey boards, titles to upper board in black, white paper title label to spine. Possibly some very discreet repair to spine, spine label a little tanned, light spotting to endpapers, but a very smart copy in excellent condition. First edition, first impression, inscribed by Blunden with a quotation from Edward Gibbon, "'But my principal obligation to the militia, was the making me an Englishman and a soldier.'" and presented to "A. E. Culpin with Edmund Blunden's respects 24 April 1931", all on the front free endpaper. This was one of 250 copies on ordinary paper (there were also 25 signed copies on special paper) and is the earliest dated presentation copy we have handled or been able to trace at auction. The University of Iowa holds evidence of a sustained correspondence between Blunden and Culpin 1929-1944. Buchnummer des Verkäufers 120715
