Published in 2001 by V&A Publications and distributed in North America by Harry N. Abrams, the work documents the serene landscapes and architectural studies of one of Great Britain's early amateur photographers. Focus centers on Turner's portfolio Photographic Views from Nature, compiled between 1852 and 1854, offering an examination of the technical and aesthetic transitions of early photographic chemistry. Oblong landscape formatting characterizes the physical volume, which is bound with a brown cloth spine, dark brown paper boards, and a matching illustrative dust jacket. Full-page sepia-toned plates replicate Turner's original large-format calotypes, capturing ruined abbeys, rustic cottages, and the historic construction of the Crystal Palace in London's Hyde Park. Specialized appendices include a detailed glossary of historic processes such as calotype paper negatives, salt prints, and albumen printing methods, alongside a list of individual plates. Collaborating curators Martin Barnes, Malcolm Daniel, and Mark Haworth-Booth compiled extensive biographical and historical records to reconstruct Turner's life and artistic process. Curated exhibitions at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art originally displayed the surviving paper negatives, which require specialized conservation. A tranquil stillness pervades Turner's evocative images of churches, cottages, old farm buildings, and ancient ruins. In stark contrast are his shots of the radically modern, long-gone Crystal Palace in London's Hyde Park. Also here are his subtly toned portrait photographs, and his 1857 pictures of Amsterdam that are among the earliest known photographs of that city. This first monograph on Turner's work accompanies an exhibition in early 2002 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Versandbedingungen
DOMESTIC SHIPPING:
We offer a choice of media mail (when applicable), first class, priority and/or expedited whenever possible. Choices for shipping methods vary and will appear at checkout (as well as additional opportunities to purchase insurance, extra insurance, etc.). All domestic orders include tracking.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING:
International shipping has become increasingly complex, but we do our best to keep up. If you have any questions regarding shipping to your country, feel free to reach out before you order. We will do our best to give you an exact quote.
All international orders include tracking and insurance. Expedited orders generally ship via USPS, DHL or Priority Mail International depending on the destination. Consolidated shipping is usually via Asendia or a similar, reliable carrier.
**VAT, Fees & Taxes: **
Where your country requires, and when under the value threshold set by your country, VAT is collected at checkout and remitted by the marketplace you ordered through. Any additional fees, duties, or taxes your country or carrier charges upon arrival are the buyer's responsibility (collected by your postal service or carrier when the package is delivered). The one exception is the European Union (see below).
The European Union:
As of 2026, the EU has added a new customs duty on every parcel entering the Union. Because of this, we are now required to prepay all duty and customs (DDP) before shipping, which is why you may notice that our EU rates run significantly higher than other countries. Additionally, on orders over 150 Euros, the full VAT tax due, over and above €150, is most often not collected by marketplaces at checkout. We may contact you through the marketplace you ordered to collect these additional VAT fees before shipping.
Typical speeds:
Although customs and overseas carrier delays sometimes happen and are outside of our control, the following should be a good guide (Business days only). If you need it faster, feel free to reach out. Sometimes we can achieve the “almost” impossible :)
Canada: Standard 10 to 21 days; Expedited, 6 to 12 days
United Kingdom: Standard 2 to 3 weeks; Expedited, 4 to 7 days by courier
