Alberta, a reclusive writer in São Paulo, is tired of playing it safe in life and literature. For her next novel, she invents Beta: vibrant, bold, sensual, and unapologetically free. While Alberta stays behind the screen, Beta is sent to live out every forbidden impulse in Madrid. But what begins as a creative experiment quickly spirals into something else. Beta takes control of the narrative, the social media accounts, even Alberta's public image, rewriting chapters with audacious details, confidence, and referring to her creator in the third person. As Alberta's reality starts to crumble into chaos, she's forced to face an unsettling question: What happens when the woman you've imagined refuses to stay fictional? To reclaim her voice, Alberta must leave the safety of her solitude and travel to Madrid to confront her manifested creation before it writes her out entirely.
