Über den Autor:
Susan Waters-Eller and Joseph J. Basile are both long-term professors at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). In 2010, they began a series of discussion on the critique process that resulted in this volume.
Susan Waters-Eller is twice winner of the MICA Trustees Award for Excellence in Teaching and is a native of Baltimore. She received all of her degrees from MICA: BFA '72, MFA '78, MA in Digital Arts '98. Working in a variety of media from painting to interactive animation, she uses illusionistic techniques to probe beneath surface reality. Included in Contemporary American Oil Painting, published in China, her thirty-year career has included numerous solo and group shows. She is currently working on a book that presents the material from her class on illussionism for the general reader.
Joseph J. Basile has a BA in Archaeological Studies from Boston University (1987), and an AM and PhD from Brown University in Old World Archaeology and Art (1990 and 1992). As an archaeologist Joe has excavated in the US, Greece, and Italy, and most recently has been Associate Director of the Brown University excavations at the Great Temple in Petra, Jordan, from 1997 to 2006. As an art historian, his research focuses on hybrid and synchretic art in Classical antiquity, Greek vase painting, and the history of archaeology.
