In an attempt by the Stratemeyer Syndicate to cash in on the "Tarzan" fervor sweeping the US in the early decades of the 20th century, they introduced the character of Bomba, a white boy growing up in the jungles of South America (first 10 books) & Africa (later 10 books). The series was popular & made into a series of 12 films, 1949-1955, starring Johnny Sheffield, who had played "Boy" in the original Tarzan films starring Johnny Weissmuller. Orig. published in a dust jacketed edition in 1929 by Cupples & Leon, then reprinted by Grosset & Dunlap, this is one of the First Picture Cover editions from Clover Books, undated, but c. late 1950s. Book #7 in the series, in 210 pages, this 12mo (5" x 7.5") has brightly colored glossy paper over boards, orig. $.49 price to front cover. Condition is VG: clean & shiny, binding strong & straight, pages heavily tanned but completely unmarked, hinges secure.Very slight rubbing to extremities, heavier at both ends of spine & corners, with bumping & a spot of paper loss to same.
