Fine condition aqua blue boards with gold spine lettering contained in a fine condition color illustrated dust jacket. Illustrated with two-tone drawings. Featuring Charles Dickens, Robert Louis Stevenson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Clement C. Moore, Robert Frost and others. "Our Christmases are marked by tradition - holiday recipes, handed-down decorations, each family's particular ritual for trimming the tree. But most of all this season is defined for us by stories, in the carols, pageants, verse, and prose we've associated with this holiday since our childhoods. In their re-tellings of the first Christmas, and of the manifestations of its spirit throughout the ages, these stories carry within them our own Christmases past. The Book of Christmas gathers together those standards of the season's literature which no Christmas anthology would be complete without - among them, the gospels according to St. Matthew and St. Luke, a selection of carols, O. Henry's "Gift of the Magi," and Clement C. Moore's "A Visit from St. Nicholas." Charles Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol appears here as well, in the abbreviated version the author himself created for use in his public readings of the word. Included also is a wide-ranging selection of verse by some of our greatest poets - Ben Johnson, William Wordsworth, Gerogre Herbert, and Robert Fronst, among others - as well as prose favorites from American writers, Louisa May Alcott, Hamlin Garland, and Sarah Orne Jewett. The voices are varied, but the different musics of the book's three sections join in chorus, resounding like the bells in Tennyson's villages in "Voices in the Mist": .peace and goodwill, goodwill and peace Peace and goodwill to all mankind." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps.…

Shopbeschreibung
Vero Beach Books is an antiquarian bookseller with a constantly updated inventory of rare out-of-print books, signed books, children's books, plus a large inventory of ephemeral items such as major U.S. city newspapers going back 100 years and more, golden and silver age fine condition comic books (soon to be added), and many other ephemeral items as well as much more recent popular volumes. We have been in business for 25 years, originally known as Emerson Books (named after one of our owner's favorite authors, to wit, Ralph Waldo Emerson) located back then in Westport, Connecticut. That said, we are here to serve you, to offer you fine quality items that are conservatively described so that you will always be pleasantly surprised and delighted with your purchase. Twenty-five years in the bookselling business has borne out our stellar service oriented reputation; the only difference is that now we are located in the almost always sunny and warm climate of Vero Beach, Florida. Again, we are here to serve you and, as was the case when we were previously known on ABEBooks.com as Emerson Books, we will continue to offer our very popular 100% free search service for those hard to find books rare and out of print books. Oftentimes we are also able to obtain these rare finds at very good discounts to our customers' so it is always worth contacting us in such cases!
