Folio; 15.25 inches tall; cloth over the spine to pictorial boards. Corners and edges rubbed, scuffing to the front and rear. Interior fine with mild even toning. 39 full-page plates with facing vignetted by Frost and Wallace Irving. The subjects are varied of the turn-of-the-century sporting life; golf, shooting, angling. . A lovely example of Americana. His work captures the appearance and characteristics of rural and small-town American types. A pillar in American art history, Frost's knack for portraying any type of scene, comedic or otherwise, made him an ideally flexible artist. Later in his career, Frost honed his ability to replicate scenes from real life in a pictorial realism. As such, his convincingly intimate renderings of rural life and authentic details of sport (mostly hunting and fishing) became another part of his legacy by the end of his long career.
