First published in 1899, this book was the centerpiece of a fund-raising effort by the good folk of Monifieth to raise 4,000 pounds for their public golf course. Excellent articles by Rev. McPherson, A. J. Robertson, A. H. Doleman, et al give rare insight into the early days of the gutta percha ball and the rapid expansion of golf in the 1870s. Included are the original advertisements of golf clubs, balls, bicycles, sporting footwear, even the fashions of the time. There are golfing photographs, cartoons, and portraits of the members together with those of the ladies who provided the stalls at the Bazaar. Don Wilson's introduction sets the scene for this historic and rare book that gives a unique insight in to the local Scottish society between Carnoustie and Dundee and the game of golf.
