Chapter One

The Journey Begins

Faith.... such a difficult thing to understand and live by. Yet it is the language of heaven, the language of angels in order to walk successfully in this Christian walk we must walk through faith. Walking on this road requires faith. Hebrews 11:1-3 in the One New Man Bible translates: And trust is being confident of things being hoped for, proof of things not seen. Indeed the elders were approved by this. By trusting we understand that the worlds were created by a spoken Word of God, so that what is seen has not come out of things which were visible. Many choose to walk by sight, but the bible tells us that we walk not by sight but through faith. (2nd Corinthians 5:7)

If we are going to take on this journey we must first understand that it all begins through faith and by faith alone. They say that we as humans can survive a couple of weeks without food, a couple of days without water but only a couple of seconds without air.... Air is the most important thing to our day to day operation and ultimate survival. If air is the most important thing to our survival in the natural realm then FAITH is the most important "thing" to our spiritual survival!

You were meant to conquer, you were meant to win, you were meant to succeed. Yet the world tells you that they have the formula to your success, but to conquer you must have faith, live by faith, breathe faith, walk by faith, operate by faith.... faith is the ingredient that we Christians need in order to conquer.

Every single day of our lives we are faced with tests and trials that challenge us as individuals. We cannot see air but we know it exists, and we have faith that as long as there is air on earth we can live. In the same manner "Faith" cannot be seen but it can be felt! How you say? It is felt through our words; when you speak contrary to your circumstances, when you speak differently than others and I do not mean language by itself but by the anointed word that comes forth out of your mouth, and that word that comes forth out of your mouth should be the word of the living God given to us through the Bible.

Faith is felt through our actions and attitude. Look at David for a moment when he is at Ziklag (1st Samuel 30:1-6) You find that David is stressed beyond belief. They have taken his family, cattle, everything he had the enemy took and to make matters worse his own men wanted to kill him. Yet David acts with Faith by taking refuge in and strengthening himself in the Lord his God.

When you activate FAITH it changes who you are, as if you become a different person all together. When FAITH is activated it does not matter what is happening, what has happened, or might happen, you are unmoved because God is your strength and when he is your strength then you become unmovable. Faith is activated when you begin to speak, act, think and live differently to your physical surroundings. The word says that Faith cometh by hearing and hearing the word of God. When we declare HIS word in our life faith is then activated. It changes you because you now see things through the eyes of God and not the eyes of man. Man sees failure, problems, poverty, sickness, defeat and so forth, yet the eyes of God see blessings, growth, abundance, prosperity and victorious living.

It is up to us to decide which pair of glasses we want to wear ... how do we want to live ... I will tell you that living by sight causes a painful life, but a life of faith is an abundant life!

Abraham ... the author of faith teaches us many things that today give us a great insight into the life of faith. Allow me to share what I have learned about Abraham and his walk through Faith.

What does the scripture tell us? It says that if one is baptized into Christ, he has put on Christ, or become a Christian. Then, when you have become a Christian, you are a true descendant of Christ, and an heir of the promise. Now this does not mean that we are Jews. Abraham himself was not a Jew. He was a Chaldean and came from Ur of the Chaldees.

The outstanding thing about Abraham was his faith. He developed a faith that was accounted perfect in God's eyes. David developed the same kind of faith. Jesus had perfect faith also, and to a greater degree than either Abraham or David, for Jesus was God's own Son.

We are interested in having the same kind of faith Abraham had because this verse declares that, if we belong to Christ, we have something in common with Abraham and more importantly Christ, and will be heirs of great promise.

What kind of faith did Abraham have? In the first place, he left his home in Ur of the Chaldees and traveled to a strange country because he believed God. God had told him that if he would move to a far country, even Palestine, God would make him into a great nation, would bless him, would make his name great, and he would be a blessing to many people. Because Abraham believed, he did not hesitate, he went.

Faith causes you to take God's word and run with it. Faith causes you to do things that you normally would not do for the kingdom and in the natural realm. Faith will cause you to make leaps and bounds as opposed to baby steps.

Later, when Abraham had a son, God asked him to offer that son as a sacrifice upon an altar. Though Abraham was deeply tested in this, he did not falter. He did as God had commanded. He obeyed God.

In Abraham's mind, Isaac was as good as dead because God had commanded him to slay Isaac. We know that God stayed Abraham's hand as the knife was uplifted, and God supplied a ram for the offering. The New Testament tells us that the reason Abraham was willing to obey God in this matter of slaying his son since Abraham believed that God was able to resurrect Isaac from the dead. (Heb. 11:19.) Abraham's life was one experience after another of believing God and obeying God. Because he had such great faith in God and was so obedient to God, Abraham's faith was counted to him for righteousness.

Because Abraham had such great faith, he is called the father of the faithful in the New Testament. If we, then, have as much faith as Abraham had, we would have the faith of Abraham. This is exactly what Romans 4:11, 12, 13, and 16 says: "He received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet...
