Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good+. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good dj. Illustrated by (dj illus) Leonard Rosoman (illustrator). First Edition. [modest shelfwear to bottom edges, one-time owner's name and date & place of purchase (in pencil) on front endpaper, light age-toning to edges of text block; the jacket has a small chip at the top of the spine (removing most of the "B" in the title), teensy bits of paper loss at several corners, a couple of small internal tape repairs]. "A report on the American male by a lone and expendable operator in the sex-war. A devastating vein of satire, even caricature, runs through these stories, all written from the quick, without a word wasted. Analysis, alcohol, lysergic acid [LSD], marriage and promiscuity, pills and pets are tried and found wanting, sometimes hilariously." Described in her wire-service obituary as "a writer whose best subject was her own life of passionate abandon," Ms. Skelton (1916-1996) was married three times (her first husband was literary critic Cyril Connolly) and had numerous affairs with the likes of Egypt's King Farouk. Her published literary output encompasses two novels and two memoirs, in addition to this book of stories; the memoirs were adapted into a forgettable 1994 film called A BUSINESS AFFAIR.
