The Boston Book. Being Specimens of Metropolitan Literature. Boston: Ticknor, Reed, and Fields, 1850. 364 p, original decorated cloth binding measures 8 x 4.75", 8vo. Featuring First Printings of: The Morning Visit by Oliver Wendell Holmes (page 89), Resignation by Henry Longellow (page 123). In good condition. Binding slightly cocked. Boards scuffed at edges and worn/bumped at corners. Head and tail of spine collapsed with frayed cloth; spine tanned from shelf-wear/sun-exposure. Gilt lettering and deco normally dulled on spine, but overall legible and attractive. All edges of text-block gilt. Ownership bookplate on front paste-down: "Harry Little". Front gutter cracked at vignette title page with some cording exposed. Normal toning and age-staining through text-block. Some spots of light finger-soiling. Binding intact. Please see photos and ask questions, if any, before purchasing. Vignette title page of the "Great Tree" on Boston Common with a fountain and a flagpole in the forefront.
