Beschreibung
Henry Charlton Bastian's study of the human brain and the nervous system, in connection with nineteenth-century understanding of evolution. The third edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, blind-stamped to the boards, with the gilt crest of the Victoria University of Manchester to the front board. Previous owner's ink inscription to the front blank and to the verso of the front blank. Henry Charlton Bastian (1837-1915) was an English physiologist and neurologist. In this work, Bastain explores the human brain and the nervous system, comparing it to the brain of vertebrates, and considering the development of the brain through evolution. It gives a wonderful insight into the biological knowledge of the Victorian era. Four pages of publisher's advertisements to the front and forty-five pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with fading and shelf wear to the spine, and small losses to the head and tail of the spine. Front hinge is slightly strained but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Good. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 914M21
