A complete four-volume set of the new edition of Thorburn's beautifully illustrated ornithological study. The first impression of the new edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Illustrated with one hundred and ninety-two colour plates over the four volumes. Collated, complete. Loosely inserted to volume III is a colour plate depicting the eggs of various birds. An ornithological study of the birds of Britain, with reference to family and subfamily turdinae, and details of each individual bird. This work was written and illustrated by Archibald Thorburn, a Scottish artist who specialised in wildlife, painting mostly in watercolour, who regularly visited Scotland to sketch birds in the wild. Volumes one and two were published in 1925, while volumes three and four were published in 1926. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, except for fading to the spines. Faint marks to the boards. Front hinge is slightly strained to Volume I but is firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with the odd handling mark. Very Good.
