Allies into Paris Lovell was released, and at once hastened home.
On the appearance of Waverley, it was read aloud in the family at Edgeworthstown, and Maria had sat down to write her appreciations to the unknown author before the Postscript had been read; when this preface at the end of the book was discovered, Mrs Edgeworth read it to the others, and their plea sure was naturally heightened by the mention of Maria's work and the value Scott set upon it.
Patronage went through three editions before the end of 1815, and Maria had been busy in revising it for the third edition somewhat against her own judgment. This and the writing of her Comic Dramas, and the novels Harrington and Ormond, represent her literary work till 1817, in which year both the dramas and the two novels were published.
