Two volumes folio [text block 377 x 300mm], splendid contemporary green crushed and polished morocco by Zaehnsdorf of London with their gilt exhibition stamp on rear pastedowns, the boards with single gilt fillet border, extravagantly and beautifully panelled with gilt rules and leaves etc, the spine with gilt decorated flattish, broad raised bands; lettered direct in three panelled compartments, the remaining three compartments panelled with gilt rules and corners, board edges with double gilt fillet, top edge gilt the other edges untrimmed, inner dentelles, green watered silk doublures with gilt roll border. Armorial bookplate of Frank Cyril Tiarks of Foxbury on fly-leaves. NUMBER 63 of 100 copies printed on Japanese Paper. Title-pages printed in red and black. VOLUME 1: coloured frontispiece and three plates, all with printed tissue-guards, monochrome plates numbered 1-96 with printed tissue-guards, [iv], 90, pp, text illustration at head and tail of essay, decorated initial. VOLUME 2: A duplicate suite of plates in different state with printed tissue-guards. Internally very good; library bookplate to paste down; no other library markings found except for three or four small discreet blind stamps; one of a LIMITED EDITION of 400 copies on fine paper of which this is No. 168; printed and plates engraved by Manzi, Joyant and Co. at Asnieres-sur-Seine in 1905; profusely illustrated with 98 main plates; two colour plates and other smaller portraits; all plates and portraits have titled tissue guards; binding tight; no foxing; end papers marbled; top edges gilt others semi-trimmed.
