Beschreibung
Broadside. Measuring 8½" x 11". Single yellow sheet, printed on one side. Very good with a few stray marks and creases, light brown stain and general edgewear. An uncommon broadside handed out at the picketing by The Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) of a Syracuse Bank, for discriminatory mortgage lending practices. It prints details about an African-American Family's attempt to purchase a home in a white neighborhood, and a six-paragraph explanation of the bank s discriminatory acts, stating (in part): "A local Negro, a client of Maloney Real Estate Co., wished to purchase a home [in] Dewitt. He offered to purchase the lot for $26,500 by making a $5300 down payment… would not allow him to make the purchase. Donald W. Maloney, realtor, the Negro family, and CORE believe that the bank's action was discriminatory… The bank did not even inform the owner about the Negro's offer." Unrecorded by *OCLC*, which does locate three other records of Syracuse Committee on Racial Equality holdings totaling seven in all. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 518948
