Brown cloth boards, bumped to corners, creases to cloth on reverse, the head of the spine repaired with tape. Decorations in black with pictures pasted to front and spine, a little rubbed. Binding good, but starting to weaken along inside gutters. Brown illustrated endpapers. Light tanning to endpapers. Pencilled 1914 gift inscription to ffep. Signature to "This book belongs to" plate. Full colour frontispiece. Illustrated title page in two-colours. Unpaginated, colour and b/w illustrations. Contents clean and bright. Herbert Strang was the pseudonym of two English authors, George Herbert Ely (1866 1958) and Charles James L'Estrange (1867 1947). They specialized in writing adventure stories for boys, both historical and modern-day.
