Inhaltsangabe: DON COLDSMITH, voted one of the greatest western writers of the twentieth century by the Western Writers of America, single-handedly revolutionized the Western novel with his acclaimed Spanish Bit Saga. Set in the early sixteenth century, the Spanish Bit re-creates a time, a place, and a people that have been nearly lost to history. In it we see history through the eyes of those who lived it.

Owl's father changed the lives of the People by bringing the horse from his native Spain. Now Owl must make his own contribution by learning the way of the buffalo from an ancient medicine man and pursuing a vision quest. Embarking on a perilous journey through savage lands, Owl risks capture by the People's enemies, and wins the heart of a brave and beautiful woman, before winning honor among the People.

Owl's father had changed the lives of the People by bringing the horse from his native Spain. But now the younger son of that legendary chief must make his own contribution by learning the way of the buffalo from an ancient medicine man and following his own vision quest to great honor among the People. It was Owl's older brother Eagle who would one day succeed their father as chief. It was the way of the People. But Owl too had a calling: as apprentice to the tribe's old medicine man, he slowly but surely learned the way of the buffalo until he was ready to make his own vision quest and become a man, worthy of the honored title of White Buffalo. Fate, though, had other plans for young Owl. While seeking his vision alone, he was captured by a war party of Head Splitters, the People's sworn enemies. The son of a chief was for them a great prize, and they subjected their prisoner to the worst sort of treatment. Escape remained upper- most in Owl's mind, but as time passed the possibility seemed more and more unlikely. Yet Owl's months with the Head Splitters were only a prelude to the odyssey that would take him far from home, far from hope, and, finally, to the ultimate test of his buffalo medicine. A physician by profession, Don Coldsmith is also a breeder and exhibitor of Appaloosa horses, as well as a newspaper columnist and freelance writer. His first novel was Trail of the Spanish Bit. Dr. Coldsmith lives (1981) near Emporia, Kansas. Contents in 39 Chapters. Size: 6" X 8 1/2". Signed by Author. Buchnummer des Verkäufers 15961
