Artikelbeschreibung vom Verkäufer

- Octavo, 8-1/2 inches high by 6 inches wide. Stapled printed buff paper wrappers. The covers are stained with creases and chipping along the edges of the covers and the spine. There are notes penciled on the rear cover. 22 pages, including the front cover. The pages are slightly darkened with occasional creases and minor stains along the edges. Good. Exceedingly RARE. WorldCat locates only a single copy that is pasted in a scrapbook in the collection of the Louisiana State University library."Daughters of the Confederacy, it was through the influence of a woman that Columbus was enabled to make his voyage that led to the discovery of the New World. Later, our forefathers builded the temple of liberty and established the 'most perfect form of government ever devised by the wisdom of men.' The principles of that government are incorporated in the Constitution of 1787. Now let it be the office of the women of the South, working through the combined efforts of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, to teach those principles to the rising generation. . the Daughters of the Confederacy [will] be building the greatest of all monuments, a thought monument, to the brave men of the South who gave their service, their fortunes and their lives in defense of the principles of constitutional liberty. A monument builded, not of stone, but of thoughts of honor and reverence in the living, pulsing hearts and active brains of their descendants. Thought is power and will live when monuments of stone have crumbled into dust and dynasties have been swept into oblivion by the wings of time." [Quoted from page 21].Established in 1894 by Caroline Goodlet and Anna Raines, the United Daughters of the Confederacy is a hereditary association of Southern women. The association's purpose is to commemorate the Confederate soldiers who fought in the Civil War and fund the erection of memorials to these men. The group is viewed by many as supporting white supremacy.
