First edition. 8vo. Cloth, titles stamped in gold gilt on the spine, 210 pp., foreword, introduction, illustrated, notes, bibliography, index. In the first section of the book, Rister traces the short-lived attempt by Beale to found a settlement in the heart of Comanche country on Las Moras Creek in South Texas in 1834. Political instability, poor environmental conditions, crop failures, and conflict on the Texas frontier contributed to the colony's downfall. As settlers attempted to flee following news of the disasters at the Alamo and Goliad, some were attacked, and Sarah Ann Horn, along with other women and children, was taken captive by Comanches. BTB page 468 says "Rister's Comanche Bondage relates to the outpost of Beale's Colony and to the more specific captivity of Sarah Ann Horn, including a complete annotated reprint of A Narrative Of The Captivity Of Mrs. Horn, and Her Two Children, With Mrs. Harris, by the Comanche Indians [published in 1839]." In the first section of the book, Rister traces the short-lived attempt by Beale to found a settlement in the heart of Comanche country on Las Moras Creek in South Texas in 1834. Fine copy in dust jacket one half-inch closed tear to top edge of front panel. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 54475
