Complete run of the revered Bay Area punk zine, along with the companion newsletters. Creep was co-edited by Mickey Sampson (a.k.a. Mickey Creep), then the roommate of Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra, who appears on the cover of the second issue. The first issue offers an important assessment of punk participation in the White Night riots, a series of violent events sparked by the announcement of a lenient sentencing of Dan White for the assassinations of San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and Harvey Milk, a member of the city's Board of Supervisors and the first openly gay elected officials in the United States: "Despite the fact that some sectors of the media have insisted on referring to the events of that night as a gay riot, and certain self-appointed leaders of the gay community have tried to portray it as a riot caused by street people, those of us who were there all know better. What happened that night was an uprising against increasingly fascistic authority represented most visibly by a police force of Dan White sympathizers, and the anti-punk mayor who was the chief beneficiary of the actions of the police-trained assassins. This uprising was carried out by many sectors of oppressed men and women, including gays, punks, and Third Worlders." An important record of the nascent Bay Area punk scene, Creep included profiles and interviews with bands like The Jars, Mondellos, Dead Kennedys, Angry Samoans, and Social Unrest. It also includes coverage of the Los Angeles and U.K. scenes, as well as new wave. Notably, the second issue features a story on the "Maximum Rock 'N' Roll" radio show on Berkeley's KPFA, 94.1 FM, and host Tim Yohannan, who founded the long-running zine of the same name in 1982.
