[iv], 94; [ii], 17; [ix], 99, [1]; [iii], 53, [3]; [iii], 58 pp. (lacking frontispiece portrait), 4to (8.5 x 10.5 in), half dark-brown morocco, dark-brown cloth sides, gilt title on spine, leather title label, five raised bands; marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. A wide-margined copy, interleaved with blanks. Priced in ink throughout, with buyers names given in Part One. A truly astonishing collection, comprised of 4,552 lots (some are portfolios of prints); the breadth of artists represented is wide, and includes Hollar, Faithorne, Delaram, Elstracke, Strange, Woollett, Morghen, Baldini, Botticelli, Mantegna, Vertue, Reynolds, Loggan, Bartolozzi, Blootelling, among others. Sir Mark Masterman Sykes (1771-1823) was an MP, but more interestingly, was a founding member of the Roxburghe Club and a prominent bibliophile whose library of nearly 3,700 volumes was dispersed at auction the year before in 1823 in three sales. While an advertisement by Mr. Sotheby in Part Three of the present volume lists a forthcoming "Part VI," covering topographical prints connected with the County of York, the title page to Part the Fifth states it is the "Fifth and Last Part," and its summary description of the offerings includes the aforementioned York topographical items. A scarce set of all five parts. An attractive copy, with the pages quite well preserved; some minor rubbing to covers; small corner dampstains to a couple of leaves.
