A scarce edition of this work by John Watkins, in attractive leather binding. Detailing anecdotes of various British "men of learning and genius", the work contains interesting recollections about the likes of Sir Thomas More, Sir Walter Raleigh and William Camden. In half-morocco binding with gilt detailing and paper-covered boards. Externally sound, there is wear to the extremities, more significantly so to the joints and backstrip. The hinge is also slightly strained. Internally, the pages are firmly bound but are spotted and foxed throughout, although the text remains clear. There is an ink inscription to title page. Good.
