Inhaltsangabe: Deltasorority sister Cheryl Fields has the brothers of Gamma Beta Psi incheck. They know she knows their charm and womanizing ways are justfuel for a deep need to be respected and seen as strong. She respectsmen and Cheryl instinctively knows how deeply men want to respecther. She lets them.
Whatshe doesn't understand is what love means. She gets it. She gives it.But understanding love comes slow.
Untilshe meets Perry. He teaches her how God sees women, what men reallyare after and how to hold a man's heart and attention. Unfortunately, when God comes in, everything that isn't God has to go. And Cheryl'slife as the girlfriend of the most feared Gamma on the east coast, her first love, Mike "Frosty" Johnson, has a lot that ain'tGod.
CherylFields began her life in Chicago, the only daughter of ahard-drinking Navy man. She lost her mother at an early age and hadto learn love from dad, a man who had been hurt by his woman. Cherylbecame tough and strong, and carried her hurt in a lonely place whereonly sisters and moms confide.
Collegeand sorority and fraternity brothers became a paradise of all Cherylmissed growing up. Freshman year, Cheryl became a "Sweetheart"for Mike, soon-to-be leader of Gamma Beta Psi, and the most athleticand handsome brother on campus. Helping Mike pledge introduced Cherylto the brutal pledge process most African-American fraternities andsororities practiced in the 1970's. On mostly White Maryland StateUniversity's campus, the tradition, and the hazing, were supreme.
Cheryl'ssenior year, Perry, a freshman, leads Cheryl to faith in Jesus. WhenPerry asks Cheryl to help when he pledges Gamma, tradition, jealousyand plain old bad luck invade Cheryl's life.
Thoughat times it seems like God's not there at all, Cheryl learns her newsavior is always there, he always listens, and she even learns how totalk to God and hear what he says, even if it costs her the man sheknows in her heart she was born to marry, the man who has beenpromised.
Onlyone can be number one.
From the Author:
I wasinspired by my experiences pledging a Black Greek fraternity and theviews so many in my culture have of women as objects and men asone-dimensional. I decided to write a book in a woman's voice thatwould help both sexes understand one another from a Biblicalviewpoint. Actually, I began writing and the female character, CherylFields, took over.
Likebecoming a new Christian, the hazing endured in the Black Greekpledge tradition is a once-in-a-lifetime experience never forgotten.
I believe these words will shape my ministry through Cheryl's Song:
This book isdedicated to woman.
You have laboredlong in your call. You were called to make good the one, "notgood," of creation. Your work has not been in vain.
You are loved, needed by man to make the earth complete. You are loved by God andneed no man's role. You are for a special work: woman's work.
Ibelieve God is sending a new understanding. In Christ, there isneither male nor female. All are one. To God's daughters: God lovesyou.
