Black cloth boards with some edge and corner wear, as well as chipping and discoloration. Previous owner's name on blank page following front free endpaper. A few quires of pages are loose. Internal hinges are cracked and binding is shaken. There are some marginalia. William Edward Schenck, D.D., was born in Princeton, N.J in 1819. He graduated at the College of New Jersey in 1838; studied law; was a missionary in the coal regions of Pennsylvania, 1842; ordained by the Presbytery of new Brunswick, February 28th, 1843; was pastor at Manchester, N.J., 1843-5; stated supply of Hammond Street Church, New York city, 1845; and its pastor, 1847-8. In 1848 he was called to the First Presbyterian Church, Princeton, N. J., and continued to be its pastor until 1852; from 1852 to 1854 he was Superintendent of Church Extension in the Presbytery of Philadelphia, and from 1862 to 1870, was Editor, as well as Secretary, of the Presbyterian Board of Publication.
