With the bookplate of Adèle Meyer (1855 ? 1930), the social reform campaigner who was married to wealthy banker Carl Meyer. From 1906, Adèle Meyer was a member of the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies and became editor of their journal, 'The Common Cause'. In 1907 Meyer funded an early School for Mothers (also known as Mothers' & Babies' Welcome) in London which she served alongside Alys Pearsall Smith, first wife of Bertrand Russell. Red cloth gilt. Appears to be ex-library with evidence of label removal from spine and feps. "Presented by Lady Meyer" written in pencil to ffep, and Adèle Meyer's bookplate affixed to front pastedown; no other bookplates, inscriptions or markings except for foxing to eps and prelims. Paper age-toned. Binding firm with edge wear to lightly soiled boards, bumping to corners, fraying to spine tips and ends of joints, and severe fading to spine but gilt titling on upper board still bright. 297 pp; 4 pp catalogue for The New Library of Medicine; 40 pp general Methuen catalogue.
