Beschreibung
Large tabloid newspaper, single sheet folded into 4 pages. A single issue of this newspaper published by the Western Home and Foreign missionary Association, providing some theological musings, news, and reports from various missions, as well as opinion pieces. Perhaps of note in this issue is a brief mention of the Mendi mission in West Africa and Sarah Margru Kinson, A formerly enslaved child who was aboard the Amistad. Kinson was among those who returned to Africa after being declared free. Local missionaries decided it would be best for her to return to the United States and get an education, so she attended Oberlin College before returning back to the Mendi mission to serve as principal of their school. Brief news from other missions is also included, including news from Jamaica, Hawaii (Sandwich Islands), Siam, in California and elsewhere. Two anti-slavery pieces also are present in the paper, one discussing the use of religion to justify slavery in America; the other debunking and mocking various racist and ignorant talking points relating to African Americans. GOOD condition. Several horizontal and vertical fold creases present, with other wrinkles increases also noted. Minor scattered foxing and soiling to the paper. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 018901
