This NF quality book was copyrighted in 1911 and is published by Henry Altemus; it is 7-5/8" tall with 256 numbered pages of text followed by 8 unnumbered pages of ads. This book is a format #1 as per Mattson & Davis (cream cloth with red lettering on the spine & red & green lettering on the front panel) and has a slight lean, is extremely clean, free of edge dings with both upper corners lightly bumped; the heel of the spine is also lightly bumped but with no damage; the bottom edges have virtually no wear. The spine is clean and not faded or soiled and the lettering is clear and intact; the front panel is also extremely clean and has virtually no wear. The interior is free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and paper damage of any type. Both hinges are quite strong and not damaged in any fashion. The text paper is moderately toned and it remains flexible and not brittle; however, end paper have some heavy toning. Except for the toned end pages, this book could almost be mistaken for new. The book has no remainder mark and is not a former library book. It has a frontis + 3, all on plain paper. The series list in the back of the book lists only the first four titles in the series. The Near Fine quality jacket is remarkable--I took it out of its jacket cover to better show its nearly pristine nature. It is extremely clean with a pair of short tears at the top of the front panel with a fold between them, with a tiny chip. But beyond its cleanliness, it is a style of jacket not credited in Mattson & Davis: the image is unique and the array of colors--red, green, and black of course, but also green, brown and blue.
